External cleaning methods are used where they can reach the deposits; any necessary entry into a suitable structure requires confined-space assessment, controls and emergency arrangements. Upstream catchpits are also relevant because a loaded silt trap can quickly refill a cleaned tank.

Storage, inlets and controlled outlets

We state which parts of the tank were cleaned and where access limited the result. Inlets and controlled outlets are checked where included because clearing storage alone may leave another restriction. Cleaning can recover volume lost to sediment, but it cannot increase the original design capacity or guarantee that the site will not flood.

For buried modular systems, we report the cleaning channels or other accessible parts actually reached. Wider voids that were not reached remain outside the stated coverage.
